Rotary Log for January 18, 2018

We were greeted today by a most good-natured character- our own Cuzin’ Richard Smith.  Richard says he would enjoy having the role regularly.  It would be worth it just to hear that uninhibited laugh! The songmeister was Judy Loto; and it was well-done.  John Rice offered the invocation, a duty to which he is very well-suited- in any of his languages.

Announcements

Ramona Dow reminded us that the annual Basic Needs Committee Peanut Butter Drive will take place during the next three meetings.  Bring the smaller size or, if you prefer, a Hamilton and they’ll buy it for you.

On February 2nd at 7PM our club will hold a fundraiser for October’s Rotaplast trip at the Atlantic Grill. The Labrie family is hosting.  What an exciting adventure we are embarking on in honor of Jim Labrie! Imagine raising funds to change the lives of more than 100 young people. Especially since they might not get another chance to have the surgery done!

President Ben announced that his daughter broke not only her ankle but her cast. Therefore, he contributed a not-so happy dollar to the coffers.  He is behind budget on Fines and Happy Dollars, folks.

Happy Dollars

Paul Whitcomb sang the praises of the Edgewood Center for his recent stint there…Al Lantinen and Dave Holden were happy that Jay Gibson’s knee replacement was a success…

Bill Hurley was recognized with a dollar for being a Good Samaritan. Moe Sullivan spotted him pushing a van out of the snow…And Richard Smith coughed up a dollar for his pleasure at being the Greeter.

The contributions picked up from there with Wayne Semprini offering $10 to celebrate the birth of his third grandchild…Stanford put five bucks in for something to do with a Christmas card and the Center for Wildlife…

Finally, John Tabor gave a whopping $30 for his 30 years in the newspaper business.  Congratulations on your retirement, John!

The Program

Dave Holden introduced Dr. Jeff Donatello and his presentation titled, “Introduction to Stem Cell Therapy and Regenerative Medicine.”  Dr. Donatello is one of 200 specialists in the country practicing what he calls “the future of medicine!”

Injecting human umbilical cord (mesenchymal) cells into degenerating joints is considered by some to be controversial.  The good doctor is certainly not of that mind.  Bring him your inflamed and exhausted knees, ankles, hips, shoulders, fingers, back or neck! He almost guarantees relief and regeneration.  The treatment, which takes place in his office, is the simple injection of cells directly into the affected joint.  Shots are not covered by health insurance and the cost per one CC. injection is $4,000 dollars. Two will set you back $7,000 dollars.  One lucky patient had two knees and a shoulder done for the price of two!

There were many questions about the procedure, suggesting more than a few tired joints in the joint.

The 50/50 drawing

Our greeter, the esteemed Mr. R. Smith took home the bucks, but not the match.

Respectfully submitted, Neal Ouellett
