Rotary Log for Thursday May 16th, 2019

Our greeter today was John St. Pierre. Al Lantinen led us in song, while Sara Treacy read a moving invocation.

Guests.

Susan Gold (who couldn’t attend) invited Ian O’Neail, inducted as a new member today along with Larry Murphy.  Richard Lyons invited his son, Daniel Lyons, now a co-worker with him. Leo Gagnon’s visitor was his much better half, Lori Waltz-Gagnon. John Bohenko brought George Burke.

Announcements.

Justin Finn from the Golf Committee announced that $20,700 has been raised this year, way to go!  There are more sponsorships available, especially in the $500 category.

New Members.

Joanie Dickinson sponsored newbie Larry Murphy, a former Rotarian. Larry is very happy to be surrounded by Rotarians again. He lives in North Hampton with his wife Hilary, a top cardiac devices nurse.  You could get a true sense of his admiration for her work and achievements in that field.

Larry’s son Matthew works for the National Guard in D.C. Daughter Natalia, whom the family adopted in 1997, has a degree in Anthropology from the Roger Williams University.  Larry has volunteered for Vietnam and served in the U.S. Air Force.  We welcome him to Rotary and right on to the Communications Committee!

Kathy Berger introduced Ian O’Neail on behalf of his sponsor, Susan Gold.  Ian is a UNH graduate and works for Northwestern Mutual.  Welcome to Portsmouth Rotary!
Peter Weeks won the $25 raffle and sorry not a match.

Arts in Reach.

AIR – Arts In Reach made a presentation on their summer program for young teens called Summer Works.  Mary Jo Monusky, soon to be retired AIR Executive Director, thanked us for a $2000 grant.

Debra Holloway, incoming E.D., showed a video about this great after school program.  The presentation featured interviews with program participants. All said they now feel more connected, engaged and social instead of different and on the sidelines.

Leo after Cleo.

Incoming president Leo Gagnon made a presentation about the future of the club.  He handed out a survey asking members to weigh-in about existing traditions like The 4-Way Test, Invocation and song.  He asked our opinion on adding more networking events as well as another fundraiser. Leo also mentioned a clean water mission and Rotaplast.  He also touched on the upcoming 100th anniversary of the club which is in 2023.  It will be here before we know it!

Respectfully submitted, Yvonne Legge
