Rotary Log for Thursday April 2nd, 2020

Day 6 of “Stay at home” order from NH Governor Sununu

What a year these last two weeks have been! And that’s not a misprint.   But, while the World may have gone mad, Rotary and fellowship continue.  We again met through a virtual Zoom meeting today.

It was only my 2nd Zoom (the first one involved wine and girl talk) but it was great to see everyone’s faces! Young and old, showered or not, we started with 42 members and ended with 55.  Fine master--please take notice of those who were late. Unless they were brushing teeth, combing hair or putting on mascara for the first time in 2 weeks (me.)

Judy Ringer sang America the Beautiful and John Rice gave the invocation for guidance in these uncertain times.

Guests.

I saw Cleo’s daughter Elaina and Nancy Clayburgh’s son, Michael.  Hats off to all of you parents homeschooling right now due to the virus.  I think I also caught a glimpse of Joan – John Rice’s wife.

Announcements.
  • We will be starting a fund on Venmo for our Rotarians in need due to job losses caused by the Corona Virus.
  • $26,338 dollars was contributed by our District to Polio Plus fund.
  • The Golf Tournament has been postponed to September or October due to the virus.
  • Susan Gold is sewing masks for medical first responders, but if you need one please let her know.  There was an announcement that it is advisable for everyone to wear a cloth mask while in public.
  • Francois Meissner is collecting clothing for Friends in Action, she especially needs women’s shoes and accessories.  Let’s clean out those closets, what else are you doing?  Netflix can wait.  Especially that Tiger King show, ewww.

Main Program.

Ian O’Neall is taking over the Rotary History Moment, Flagg is just too important now with his impending presidency.   Ian shared some jokes from 1967 with us, most of them not funny, which I think was on purpose except for this one:

“Mom, how do lions make love?  I don’t know, honey, most of your father’s friends are Rotarians”

As it was “Joke Day,” we next took turns telling a joke. The program was funny, light-hearted and took our mind off worries, and that’s where things started to get weird (see the following images.) Leo turned into a Horse’s arse, Craig Taylor started ordering drinks from a Tiki bar and James Petersen started to talk about his sex life.  Yes you read that correctly.

There were graphs and visuals--I think the Self-Quarantine is getting to our dear James.  There was a timeline of James transitioning from boyhood to manhood which included watching his mother dress and a lunch lady.  I would strongly suggest that James seek help of a professional. Rotarian Ann Bliss is a Clinical Mental Health Counselor and may be able to provide therapy.

I have learned a lot today.  I have never seen a Sears Roebuck catalog and have never been to Tyngsborough Drive in.  I was not as impressed with Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition but now, I understand.  Victoria’s Secret catalog, that’s quality!  I guess a lot can happen with one’s mind and sexuality. Especially when locked up in the basement whilst your mind is stuck in the gutter.  For the sake of James’s wife, may the quarantine be over soon!!!!!  Hahaha.

We had great fun with the Joke Day, did you?  Don’t miss the next meeting, it’s so Wild Wild West!

Our gathering closed with the Four Way Test. Everyone recited it from the Memory!

Respectfully submitted, Yvonne Legge
