Since I reported to you on this issue last week, we've learned of a great initiative that is now being coordinated through our Rotary District 7780.

This effort is pooling funds from Rotarians and clubs around the district to send ShelterBoxes directly to the Philippines.   You can find more information about ShelterBox in the article that follows.   But here's the simple headline:

Portsmouth Rotary's directors have approved sending $3,000 to this fund immediately, from our International Service budget.   This will provide three ShelterBox units immediately, where they are sorely needed.

Individual Rotarians can help too.   You don't need to fund a whole ShelterBox: just send your contribution in any amount made payable to Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club Foundation.  Mark "ShelterBox Philippines in the comment line of the check, and mail your check to:

Past District Governor Marty Helman, 88 Appalachee Road, Boothbay Harbor ME 04538.

Thank you!  For more info, please keep reading…..

When disaster strikes, Rotarians are often ShelterBox ’s first point of contact on the ground to help assess damages and devise a plan for immediate response. The Rotary family provides vital assistance to ShelterBox Response Teams (SRTs) by helping with disaster assessments, housing response team volunteers, and helping coordinate relief logistics. Rotarians, Rotaractors, and Interactors have worked with ShelterBox for more than ten years to help communities in dire need of assistance immediately following a disaster.  & nbsp;ShelterBox has been working relentlessly with Rotarians in the Philippines since 9 November to provide emergency shelter and relief to communities affected by Super Typhoon Haiyan, the largest recorded storm to reach landfall. ShelterBox aid is also being distributed to those affected by the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that struck the Philippines on 15 October. Read more about the emergency relief appeal and visit the Announcements section of for updates as more information becomes available.
