February 3, 2011: Rotary Log
ClubRunner communication system at Portsmouth Rotary
SLIDE SHOW photos by Sara Treacy
Rotary Log for Thursday, February 3, 2011
Log editor Jon informed your speaker/webmaster that he'd be boycotting today's meeting, probably for good reason, so in the spirit of multitasking, here are brief notes about "Snow Recovery Day" at Redhook.
Announcements: Golf tournament is Friday, June 24 at Pease, 9AM start. David Splaine is heading up the committee, assisted ably by John Pratt and John Pappas. Contact them to volunteer your energy and resources.
Lynn McLaren reports the first "Rotary University" for new members will be held on February 17 at 5PM, location to be announced.
Sara Treacy reports the club will do six soup kitchens this year, with the first occurring on March 30. Volunteers needed, please contact Sara to sign up. You're needed from 4:00 until 6:15 on that date.
Ted Alex reports the Discovery Channel's "Disappear" on February 7 at 9PM will include information about the Jeremy Alex disappearance; Ted thanks the club for their continued support, and wanted all to know of this upcoming program.
Today's program was from webmaster Dave Underhill about our new ClubRunner website. Rather than report on what was actually said, here's the outline I used in making the presentation, along with a postscript or two.

My committees, my commitments
Other talking points:
Ease of learning how to do specific tasks -- democratic, "horizontal" structure in which many members now input data and news regularly, including:
Photographers -- Ken, Sara, Jim
Log writing and editing -- Jon, Aileen
Creating web site pages and photos -- Bob Herold
Updating speakers, calendar, events -- LynnDel
Posting documents to site and emailing -- Lisa Mills
Automatic reporting to RI - Peter Grace
....and many more
Q&A game with Neal: Stump the webmaster!
Postscript:
This is the same way Congress amends their record to include things they should have said. I skimmed by the "sponsor" tab and forgot to go back to it. Portsmouth Rotary is grateful for its many web sponsors, who now receive more value than ever before. Sponsors get:
Buttons on the home page that link to their own site or email
Sponsor pages accessible from those buttons if desired, and from top-rail
Custom built ads or downloads on request
Sponsor buttons on inside pages
Sponsor ads on every e-bulletin, 200 impressions weekly, 50x per year
Want more info on any of this? Email or call me. Thanks! Dave
