Announcements

President Diane Foley announced that District Governor, Ann Hussey, will join our club at our February 24, 2011 meeting.  Ann’s visit will commemorate and celebrate Rotary Global End Polio Week.

Program: Club Visioning

Prior to beginning the program President Diane introduced several past and future leaders.

·        Neal Ouelette served as President in 2005

·        Tony Delyani is our President Elect and will serve in 2012

·        Nancy Notis, Vice President will serve in 2013

·        Dave Underhill, Director, will serve in 2014

Neal summarized the day of visioning that took place on Saturday, January at Portsmouth Library.

25 rotarians participated in the long-range planning process.  Participants were asked to envision what the Portsmouth Rotary Club will look like in 2016.  They were also asked to focus on the three Cs:  continuity, consistency and consensus.  With help from three trained facilitators those present answered the following questions:

1.        What does our club stand for in the community?

2.       What is the ideal size of our club?

3.       What are the attributes of our club?

Tony Delyani spoke about the process the group engaged in to generate a list of ideas, aspirations, goals, etc. for 2016.  He then led the membership through a mini visioning session.  Each table was asked to brainstorm for 10 minutes and then share one idea with the larger group.  Top ideas from the break-out session included:

·         Large group activities that everyone participates in

·         Every Rotarian a member of a committee; designate one Rotary meeting on some regular basis for committee meetings

·         Have committee chairs describe the work of their committees to increase awareness of the different committees and opportunities to get involved

·         Public relations committee that embraces social media to improve image, support and engage new members

·         New member mentorship

·         Broaden membership: vocational base, age

·         Provide opportunities for more interaction between the Board and Club

·         Increase fundraisers and opportunities for fellowship

·         Have a greater impact on fewer projects/needs in the community

·         Limit participation of nonprofits

·         Rotaract Club (college level)

·         Field trips and tours of local nonprofits and businesses as well as recreational activities and trips

·         One hands-on project each month

·         Raise bar on attendance

·         Club sponsored international trip

A vision subcommittee has been formed and will meet on Thursday, February 17th at 7:30 in Room 2 at the Community Campus.  If interested in becoming more involved feel free to attend this meeting.
